Dr
John Birchall, is an experienced professional trainer,
specialising in written and spoken business and legal English. He took
a PhD in ancient Greek at London University, and has taught in several
universities including Oxford. He spent three years on the editorial
team of the Oxford
English Dictionary, where he received outstanding training in the
practical use of English, and still contributes to the OED. He has extensive
experience of drafting and editing legal and business documents, of
research, as well as experience in providing training. Dr John Birchall
is also qualified as an English Barrister (a trial lawyer,
non-practising), and is a Barrister member of Lincoln's Inn. He is
therefore trained in the specific skills in written and spoken English
which advocates require. He has written on litigation for the popular
online law magazine Consilio, and provided training lectures for law
students for Law
in a Box, and
for practising lawyers on Legal Training TV.
As a non-practising Barrister, Dr John Birchall is subject to the strict disciplinary code of the English Bar Standards Board (which took over the regulatory role of the Bar Council). This gives clients confidence that their confidentiality will be respected, and that documents which they entrust to him will be handled according to the highest legal and ethical standards. Clients who use our editing or research services should not treat them as a substitute for the services of a suitably qualified lawyer.
